People started staying and settling in the portion of ERF 49 Lusikisiki from 1998. The period between the years 2004 and 2016 saw an increase of families settling and subsequently establishing a settlement or community known as New Rest Community, in this disputed portion of ERF 49 Lusikisiki. There is a dispute between the New Rest Community, who to their knowledge have legally acquired the right of occupying that portion of land; and the Ingquza Hill Local Municipality, who had earmarked that portion of land for future development projects. Another twist to land ownership saga, is that there are people who have lodged land claims for this portion of land and purport to have to have their ancestral graves in that particular portion of ERF 49 Lusikisiki (The Property). ...more
